Fall is here, which means it’s time for changing leaves and birds flying south. Tonight a flock of geese flew by my house. One of the most simple and yet amazing things is how they always fly in a V formation. There’s no discussion before takeoff. The flock doesn’t hold a vote to decide who is going to be the point of the V or who is going to be on the left or right side. Think about it. Naval pilots spend countless hours training to fly in a similar formation and even then, they depend on radio and instruments to stay in contact. It takes practice for our modified chimp brains to master all the skills necessary to pull of a stunt that birds do with no effort at all.
They just do it.
